canadian autumn

Photobucket

No, no, no, I'm not in Canada. That would be too much travelling in two weeks, even for me! Today's planned post was about lovely Greenwich in London. That was before I tipsily deleted my memory card. My boyfriend has sent me a crash course in file recovery and I'm hoping that works... In the meantime, however, I was feeling especially Canadian yesterday. October is always a month I associate strongly with my homeland, and I'm already sighing over the thought of missing Thanksgiving next week. Sigh.

Anyway, my dad recently sent me these photos. They were taken at the lake where my grandfather lives, and show an Ontario autumn in all its multi-hued glory. (The first one was taken through a screen window, hence the peculiar texture).

That's beautiful. I forget about your Thanksgiving being earlier. haha. I thought to myself, "Wait, Thanksgiving is next week?"

Yeah, we're a bit fiercely proud of our differentiated Thanksgiving! And the word round the dinner table two years ago was that Thanksgiving was invented in Canada. Mind you, I think it involved being stranded in an ice-bound ship all winter, and some Inuit being kidnapped to take them back to Europe, so probably nothing to be proud of! ; )

Are you feeling homesick? Did you find a place?

And I'd love to know the story of the Canadian Thanksgiving. We've just read the original document describing the first American one...and the mythology of the holiday has quite overwhelmed the real story.

Oh my. Your grandfather certainly lives in a beautiful place! I've always secretly envied those who live on lakes, especially in autumn. Everywhere you turn there's a view stunningly beautiful. Ahh, must be nice :)

The photo taken through the screen window is my particular favorite in this set. I've toyed around with this, too. It produces some pleasing results! Thank you for sharing these, Emily!

Sorry to hear about your Greenwich photos. I hope you were able to recover them. Technology can be a pesky thing at times ;)

Emily--I have another teaching abroad question for ya.

Did you stay in shared housing provided by a school? Or did you find an apartment in spain?

Also, did you work at multiple schools or just one?
