party time

If I could choose one thing to wear to every party all summer, this would be it. This dress, a £15 bargain from the Asos sales, fulfils all the requirements of a party dress to my mind. You can't be underdressed, because it's classic and black and flattering, and you can't really be over-dressed either because it's just a little sundress (I find a messy pony-tail helps defuse a potentially overdressed look anyway). I wore this to a party in Guelph that I knew would be casual, but didn't care and wanted to get dressed up anyway. The girls said I was 'elegant' and the guys thought I was hot, and you have to love a dress that walks that line so successfully.

This was also the first house party I'd been to in forever (they aren't so common in Europe, at least not where I've lived because no one has enough space). I just love the dynamic of house parties; the way everyone ends up in the kitchen at some point, the inevitable moment when you find yourself drinking red wine out of a mug while sitting on the floor, the spectacularly random conversations at 3 in the morning. My sister was telling me today that she's not really a party person, but I think almost everybody is... you just have to find the type of party you like. Mine involve lots of talking, not too much loud music, but perhaps a little spontaneous dancing in the wee hours...

Oh, on the topic of my sister... didn't she take some lovely pictures this time around?

What a gorgeous dress! I love the double strap and the sweetheart (is that what it's called?) neckline in the front. Gorgeous!! Definitely a steal.

That dress is gorgeous! There are always house parties around here, I don't like the teenage drunken ones, but being with my amply and close friends is good ;)

Such a lovely dress! I know what you mean about house parties, I really love them! When I was in France only a few people could host them because everyone else lived in tiny box rooms so it was always a rotation between the two flats that ended up with lots of cheap wine out of mugs. You can't beat that.

You just described my absolute favorite part of any house party. It's been a while since I've been to one, but I can easily remember situations exactly like that :) Anyway, I love how classy that dress is, without getting fussy! Gorgeous :)

That's the type of party I like too! Talking when you can actually hear as opposed to trying to lipread over a loud soundtrack and nodding and smiling and wondering what the heck someone said!
I almost bought this dress in the ASOS sale too- but then decided that I had two many black dresses and took it out- the strap detail at the back is really nice!

@Kezzie: I actually have hardly any black dresses, so it was the perfect buy for me!

your sis snapped some lovely pics of you and this fantastic dress. I'm not much of a party goer anymore but this type of house party sounds like it would be a good time. Since I have yet to make friends in my town I'll have to just settle for a party of one in my own home with my own coffee mug filled with wine :)

She certainly did! And, Em, you look beautiful. Tell me more about your ring. Is it a hand-me-down or a treasure from your travels?

@Emily: Hand-me-down. My mom and her childhood friend both got some made by a native jewellery designer many years ago. Hers/mine is a crane and the friend still wears his turtle. :)
